9/17/09 Dawson City in Yukon

Dawson City, Yukon is the heart of the world-famous Klondike Gold Rush. It is a town full of history and still full of gold seekers that are looking for their share! We took a walk through town and learned about it's history and checked out some of the original buildings from their heyday. It was a lot of fun!

It was fun to try to imagine the place covered in miners trying to decide how to spend their newest finds!

All the streets in town are still dirt and the sidewalks were still plank wood. You really did feel as if you had stepped way back in time!!

Some of the buildings were a bit older than others, but still made for some good photos!

The second night we were in town, we all headed over to Diamond Tooth Gertie's Gambling Hall & Casino, the oldest casino in Canada. It is named after bona fide dance hall queen Diamond Tooth Gertie. During the Gold Rush of 1898, in order to distinguish herself from numerous Klondike kings and queens, Gertie Lovejoy wedged a sparkling diamond between her two front teeth. It worked for her well 'cause she made her riches working the miners rather than working a mine!!!

The place was pretty cool. We thought about trying our luck at the tables or something, but decided against it.

And, of course, as with any old-time saloon and casino, there had to be a good can-can show! That's "Gertie" herself singing away to Sal. Hard to believe he'd end up in the middle of things, huh? Yeah right!!! I couldn't get my camera working fast enough to get a pic of when one of the gals threw there skirt over his head!!

There's Glen getting involved in the show too! Hmmm. He's the one who picked the table in front. Maybe he was hoping for all this attention? Somehow, I don't think so since his face is a few shades of red!

The show was really a hoot!

And then next thing ya know, they're dragging Sal up on stage and getting him to dance along! Kick one, kick two! He's even got the right leg going and everything!!!! Quite impressive!

He tried shakin' his ass just like them! He didn't even forget to put his hands on his hips at the same time!! Go Sal!!!!!!

Sal made new friends!! It was a really fun night even if we did decid not to gamble our savings away!

  1. Oh Bobbie..you know that Sal is Bad to the Bone!!!
