Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!  I hope this finds everyone spending their holiday the way that they wish and with family and/or friends.  I also hope this finds everyone and theirs happy and healthy!  We are with family in Alabama this year and having a great time!  It’s actually been a month since we arrived and I just haven’t gotten up to date with my blog until now.

We stayed the night before arriving here in Hattiesburg, LA at a wonderful Passport America park called Okatoma Resort & RV Park.  If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend a stay at this cute place.  The new owners are extremely nice and friendly.  IMG_1868 The next day, we drove through Mobile, AL on our way to my parents in Marlow. We started our visit off right by visiting some of our favorite places to eat the very next day!!  McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola, FL was our first stop.  Talk about some great food!!  They still sell Senate Bean Soup for only 10 cents!!  The ceilings are also covered in dollar bills everywhere adding to the atmosphere!! IMG_1897To prove just how fun the place is, check out the doors into the bathrooms.   You better not drink too much alcohol before having to make a trip here!  Be sure to read the signs very carefully!!  IMG_1898

IMG_1899Did you figure it out?  Yep, the sign that is physically on the Men’s Room points you over to the Women’s Room and vice versa!   After a lawsuit, they did add more signs just inside the doors just in case!  IMG_1900Another great place to eat in the area is Big Daddy’s Grill in Fairhope.  It’s a new place to us, but quickly became one of our new faves!  Excellent food and the view is also pretty wonderful since it sits right along the banks of the Fish River.  IMG_1906

Another one of our very, very favorite places is David’s Catfish House!  If you find yourself in this area at all, and you like catfish, this place is incredible!!  They’ve got the best catfish ever, along with all the southern favorites like hushpuppies, turnip greens, grits, and all the coleslaw you can eat!!imageWe’ve also gotten a little new education while we’ve been here on the skill of picking cotton these days.  It definitely has changed a lot over time.  Immediately behind my parents house is a fairly large cotton field.  Full of white when we arrived, but then the machinery came along!  It was pretty fun to watch!!  This is what spits out the big bricks of cotton that I’ve seen on the sides of the road other places.  IMG_1931The other night we all went to visit the Grand Hotel in Point Clear to eat in one of their restaurants and watch the sunset.   The hotel was originally built in circa 1847 and was once a Confederate Hospital.  The buildings and grounds are amazing!!  IMG_1992They even have a beautiful Chef’s Herb Garden that they use to cook with!  Very cool!!  The food at dinner was exceptional as well!!  IMG_1997Well, I have finally caught ya’ll up as to our activities as of late.  I know, it’s about time!!  Anyway, I will close this off with a view of the magnificent sunset we watched along the gulf at the hotel!  I hope you enjoy!IMG_1978

Again, I wish for everyone, a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Don’t forget to take a few moments to remember all the reasons you have to be thankful this season and always!  And remember all the small things as well as large!

Happy trails until next time!!

  1. Since we'll be down in Summerdale next month we'll make note of the restaurants you recommended.
